Track & Field

DC Athletics Club Track and Field

Track and Field has a two, potentially, 3 meet season. It is meant to be an introduction to Track and Field training, activity, and meet preparation and competition using the USTAF Developmental Track and Field Training program.

DCA Track and Field is an enhanced program conducted in conjunction with Speed and Agility training leveraging collateral Injury Prevention activities. At earlier ages DCA promotes, not only multisport development, but also focus on overall improved athletic performance. That means training that develops explosiveness, speed, agility, endurance and proper movement and mechanics. There will be some sport specific exercise in each session designed to drive impact in the child’s primary sport. But this Track and Field curriculum is designed to improve the child’s base capability for all sports while introducing them to Track and Field.

DC Athletics and Explosive Performance have partnered for Speed and Agility Training to DCA members. This youth program is designed for single or multisport athletes. This implementation will use Track and Field as a general accelerant for movement and running.

DCA has also partnered with DC Department of Parks and Recreation to offer as part of the training participation in three track clinics jump (April 8, 2015), throw clinic (Wed. April 29, 2015) and running (Friday April 3, 2015). The transportation from Stoddert Rec Center to the clinc location to be provided by DPR.

The objective beyond improved performance, agility, and increased balance and explosiveness are corrected mechanics and movement retraining. This includes muscle activation stride leap, lunge, and jump re-training and throwing overall capabilities to improve yield and reduce joint and muscle stress. In the first instance we focus on being faster and stronger while the latter seeks to make the athlete maximize their particular physical gifts.

DCA Practice Sessions will offer athletes an hour training for eight weeks on Tuesdays 4-5pm at Wilson H.S. track. Dates: 3/31, 4/7, 4/21, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 5/26
